The Malted Barley: Providence, RI

Britt, my brother-in-law, and I went into Providence this past weekend for the Providence Bruins game. We went to a few spots in the early afternoon but one of them was The Malted Barley. I saw pretzels and beer and was sold. First impressions of the interior is high end and eclectic. There are lots of wood accents everywhere, Edison light bulbs hanging from the ceiling and barrels sitting on shelves behind the bar. There was a buzz in the room and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves.

We got a spot at one of the bar top tables and got a flight and two pints. The waitstaff seemed a bit overwhelmed with the number of people who were ordering beers nonstop but we got our drinks quickly. I got an All Day IPA from Founders Brewing Co., Britt got a Banana Bread Beer from Wells and Young, and My brother-in-law got the sampler. He tried both of our beers and a couple other IPAs. They have an impressive number of beer options on their menu and a sampler will get you four different beers from $1.50-$2.50 a piece. They also have plenty of wines, good looking cocktails, and a respectable list of Bourbons, Scotches, and other Whiskeys.

There are pretzels, pretzel sandwiches, pretzel themed desserts, and salads but we had just ate lunch. We were watching all of these pretzels coming out of the kitchen and immediately had room for a salted pretzel with a side of marinara. It was really backed up as it was the opening weekend so we waited with our beers. When the pretzel came out it was served nice and warm. We started eating it before Britt realized that she hadn't taken a picture (it took about 90 seconds to finish it). I almost ordered another it was that good. It was soft and fresh and had the perfect amount of salt on it. I have had many pretzels from Germany to Shenzhen, China and I have to say, this has to be one of the top three pretzels that I have had in my life.

We love the atmosphere, love the decor, love the amount of beer and drink options, and especially love the pretzels. We can't wait to head back to try out some more beer, cocktails, and pretzels! Great option while you're hanging out in Providence!
