G Pub: Providence, RI

While doing a Yelp search for a place to eat in Providence Rhode Island on our Saturday visit, I had a difficult time. Most of the restaurants serving American New or Traditional fare were a bit too fancy or pricey for what we were looking for. After searching for a while, I stumbled upon G Pub. Their Yelp review was okay, and their menu was exactly what we were looking for.

At 4pm, we made our way over to G Pub. I instantly fell in love with the atmosphere. When you walk in, you halve to walk down stairs into what appears to be an industrial basement with style. The decor of the restaurant was rustic industrial. This was our style.

We decided to sit over by the bar. We Sat ourselves at a high top, on stools that looked like they belonged in a mill. Our waitress brought us over a cocktail menu. I ordered the Bloody Mary and Derek and my brother ordered the Very Old Fashioned. The Bloody Mary was spicy but not mouth on fire hot. It was made with their own blood Mary mix. It was garnished with a bacon BBQ dust rim and a lemon and lime. It was only the second bloody Mary I have had out, and it was satisfying. Derek said his old fashioned was really good. Made with vanilla sugar, it was sweet but we'll balanced.

For food, Derek ordered the Soft Pretzels off the snack menu. I ordered the Calamari. The food came very quickly, within second after our drinks arrived. Derek said his soft pretzels were some of the best he has ever had. The pretzel had the perfect pretzel exterior, slightly hard, and the inside was extremely soft. The salt was layers of thick flat grains. The Calamari was also some of the best I have ever had. A mix of rings and tentacles, it was thinly battered and sweet. It came fried in a mix of heirloom tomatoes and peppers. The side of Chipotle mayo just perfected it.

After our dinner we decided to play some shuffleboard. G Pub has a couple pool tables, shuffleboard tables a Foosball table and a table hockey table. You can see a bartender for a slip for the games which costs $7/half hour. You can also rent your own private karaoke room for you and your friends for $50/hour.

G Pub was a fun, upbeat, unique gastro pub in Providence. We really enjoyed purchase experience and felt that they deserved a much higher rating on Yelp. We will definitely make a trip to G Pub again.
