FoMu: Allston, MA
In September, for my birthday, Derek surprised me and took me to a vegan ice cream bar. Our friends Ryan and Katie had told us about FoMu weeks before. Ryan is allergic to lactose and soy. I told him that I was a little wary of trying dairy free ice creams, as I have had some, and they did not meet my expectations. Ryan told me that this FoMu makes him not miss ice cream. So, on my birthday, Derek took me to get some. At the time, I have the Banoffee Pie flavor and Malted Cookie Dough in a cone. They were delicious, and I couldn't wait to get more. Since then, I have purchased a pint of the salted Caramel from Whole Foods in Framingham. It was a delicious addition to our freezer.
While in Boston this past weekend, I begged Derek to take me back to FoMu. I had been craving it for weeks and weeks. Derek drove us into Allston on our last stop from Boston. I was overjoyed.
Parking is a little tough in Allston, so I recommend going down side streets and parking a couple blocks behind FoMu. Derek and I have found parking in that area both times.
When you walk into FoMu, you are welcomed by the staff. They are very friendly and very willing to answer your questions. When I first got there, I asked, "wait, so everything is dairy free?" and they said, "yes everything is dairy free". I was a bit overwhelmed. There were so many flavors!
The great thing is, they let you sample the flavors. Just ask to try a new flavor, and they will give you a Popsicle stick coated with a generous sample.
I tried a couple flavors, as did Derek. We both sampled Chocolate Peppermint Cookie. Derek ended up ordering that flavor with Oreo on top. I chose the Malted Cookie Dough, my favorite.

Derek's Chocolate Peppermint Cookie tasted just like Girl Scout Thin Mints. The chocolate base was very rich and creamy. The peppermint was subtle, but flavorful. The cookie pieces added a slight crunch to the mix. It was delicious.
If you are vegan or diary free, you need to check out Allston for their vegan food scene. You especially need to stop by FoMu! You will not be disappointed in the quality of their goods. While you are there, you can chose some toppings for your ice cream. You can also pick up a baked good (brownies and cookies) or an ice cream cake, just a few of their other goodies that they offer. I have told Derek that for my next birthday, I want a FoMu Ice Cream cake!
