Booking our Greece Trip!

Britt is a teacher. That means we have very specific times to travel. Coming up, April Break. We had planned to head up to Toronto and spend a long weekend seeing the city and going to the Hockey Hall of Fame. We love to take little trips inn between our bigger trips so this was going to work out perfectly.

One day I was on Twitter and saw a post about cheap flights so I looked over at my favorite flight booking site, Skyscanner.com. I looked at a bunch of places as Britt and I dreamed of Vietnam and Thailand but they were a little too expensive. We looked at South America and the Caribbean but didn't want to risk anything with the Zika virus just in case. We were still trying to decide where we would go to take advantage of really inexpensive flights and Greece came up. We had heard that there were still some unrest due to the economic downturn and refugees in the country but we didn't want to make a quick assumption. We happened to go to a party with our friends who just came back from a trip to Greece. They said how great it was and how great the people were that were there and how inexpensive everything was. So last night, we priced everything out, took a look at the best places to stay, and went for it. So now we're going to Greece!

In SkyScanner, it's super easy to find a flght with any airline, booked through any website. You can filter and find the lowest cost or the right time of departure and arrival. We easily found a flight for around $900 per person and found some cheaper flights that just had longer travel time. Because we have less than a week to travel, we selected one of the shorter travel times but still longer than the four figure flight prices. We're going from Boston to Toronto, to Rome, then finally to Athens. SkyScanner directed us right to the page to book this exact flight on Travelocity. From there, it took less than five minutes to get all of our information in and book our flight.

Then it was time to get a flight to Santorini. Luckily, SkyScanner also searches RyanAir. We are on a fifty minute flight to Santorini a day and a half after we arrive and experience Athens. We got a flight back three days later to head home through Zurich and Montreal. The RyanAir Flight was only $134 total for the both of us, round-trip.

We took a look at hotels before we booked the flights and were shocked at how inexpensive it was to stay in amazing places. TripAdvisor has a great way to sort the hotels by price, ranking, and lets you know the availability at a glance for the days that you're interested in staying. We chose some of the top ranked hotels in both Santorini and Athens. The Plaka hotel is only a 15 minute walk to the Acropolis and less to the Parthenon, it was in the top ten hotels for the old town center, and it was only $145 for the night. We decided to spend just a little more to be close to the area we wanted. In Santorini, things were even less. Costa Marina, is an equally rated hotel and in the exact location we wanted but, this time, we payed only $200 for three nights!

After we booked out trip, we decided to get travel insurance. We've used InsureMyTrip before for our Europe trip. InsureMyTrip asks a few questions to suggest a list of the best coverage options for you and lays them out for you in an easy to read and compare format. Thankfully, we haven't had to use it but it is a small price for the piece of mind that it gives us.

We wanted to show you all how easy it is to book a trip, large or small, across a state or even across the world. We hope this helps take some of the anxiety out of booking a trip on your own! It gives you so much more flexibility and personal preference into your trip!

We will be asking you all for your tips and unforgettable places that you've experienced on Facebook and Twitter leading up to our travel. We will be posting our experiences to share with you all and let you know what unforgettable experiences we have along the way!

One more amazing place in this world we get to travel to and one more adventure together.
