Tuckaway Tavern: Raymond, NH
I have been to Tuckaway Tavern in Raymond, NH twice, and both times I said, "I need to bring Derek here, he would love it." I have mentioned Tuckaway Tavern to Derek a couple times, and we keep saying we need to go so he can try it out. On Saturday, we had to go to a birthday party in NH, and it was the perfect opportunity to go to Tuckaway Tavern.
When we got to Tuckaway, which looks like a giant red barn, there was a wait for lunch. It was 1:00 PM, and the place was packed. Obviously, this place is popular. We were told there was a 20 minute wait. We asked about the bar, and we were told we could sit and get a full menu at the bar. When we went back to check it out, there were a ton of empty chairs, so we grabbed a couple seats at the end of the bar in front of the large flat screen TV.
We took our seats and looked at the drink list. Derek ordered the Tuckin Good IPA and I ordered the Pimp'n Cup (a spin on a Pimm's cup with grapes). Derek really liked his beer, and recommended it to people around us. I liked my Pimp'n cup, a grape version of the Pimm's cup I had in Europe.
We then tackled the massive menu. Derek Ordered some pretzel sticks and a side of fries. For me, I had a hard decision. I kept going back to the same dish though, the Surf and Turf Burger.
The menu describes the Surf and Turf burger as a new edition, made with a ground rib-eye and tenderloin patty, a heaping pile of lobster salad on top, and drizzles with black truffle aioli. I was in awe when the burger came to the bar. There was so much lobster on it! It was a surf and turf dream! The parry was so tender and cooked to perfection. The meat was succulent and seasoned just right. The lobster salad was made up of huge heaping chunks of lobster and mayo, just like a lobster salad should be. The black truffle aioli added that extra kick of flavor to the dish. Everything all mixed together created my most favorite burger I have ever had.
Derek really enjoyed his pretzel sticks and fries. He said the pretzels were really hot, fresh, and soft, and he enjoyed the atmosphere around him while he enjoyed his meal. The barn decor with a modern twist gives the restaurant a warm, cozy feel.
After finishing our delicious meal, we headed to the butchery to look at the products. We weren't headed right home, so we couldn't get anything cold. But, we wanted to pick up some beer. We picked up a Prosecco for our friend's birthday and headed over to the beer. Derek picked up a pack of Fool Proof Backyahd and I picked up a 4 pack of Moat Mountain Czech Pilsner.
There were many other products we could have bought. The butcher and deli had cuts of meat, tips, sausages, stuffed chicken, etc. There were also mixed salads like potato salad, Buffalo chicken salad etc. There were also a ton of desserts, dips, jellies, wines, and dairy products. Next time I visit, I will be taking something home with me from the butcher shop.
I love Tuckaway Tavern. It has a cool, relaxed atmosphere, good drinks, great good, and amazing service. We highly suggest you make the trip out to Raymond to go, and make sure you get the Surf and Turf Burger!
