Flying Rhino: Worcester, MA
Friday night, and Derek and I were looking for a place to wet our whistle and satisfy our tummies. Worcester, MA has been our new city to hang out in. Only 15 minutes away from us, it's easy to get in and out of the city. Up until recently, we hadn't really taken the time to explore what the city has to offer. However, just recently, we have been exploring Shrewsbury Street, a street in Worcester lined with restaurants and bars.
Derek found a place on Four Square called the Flying Rhino Cafe and Watering Hole. Derek really liked their menu, and it got ridiculously good reviews. We decided to check it out, and we weren't disappointed.
When we got there at 4:30, the restaurant was already getting busy. Thankfully, we were able to find a spot in their parking lot. People were at the bar, enjoying their after dinner drinks. Our hostess sat us in the less busy dining room, directly across from the bar so that we could enjoy a little bit of the good vibes coming from the bar. We got our menus and ordered our drinks. Derek ordered a Wormtown Be Hoppy and I ordered the Safari Sangria.
Both drinks were good. Derek always enjoys Wormtown. My drink was really sweet compared to your average sangria. It made my lips pucker, but it was good.
While we enjoyed our drinks, we looked around and enjoyed the atmosphere. What we liked the most were the hand painted tables, each one painted with a different fresh fruit or vegetable. The bright colors made the restraunt cheerful.
After enjoying a couple sips of our drinks we ordered some grub. The waitress was happy to put in a grilled cheese and fries off the kids menu in for Derek. I decided to go with the Cajun Swordfish Sandwich.
Our meals came in a timely fashion. Derek kept saying how delicious his grilled cheese was. I looked over and the sandwich was grilled to perfection and stuffed with an overwhelming amount of american cheese. I was almost a little jealous, until I had a bite of mine.
The Cajun Swordfish sandwich was $14 on the menu. It consisted of a piece of spicy grilled swordfish, tomato, lemon aioli and avocado. It laid neatly on ciabatta bread. The sandwich was delicious. I love when any sandwich has aioli on it, and the lemon aioli gave the swordfish the little kick it needed. The veggies were fresh, and the avocado added the right texture to the sandwich. The bread was warm and fresh. The fries that came with this sandwich and the grilled cheese were hot and crispy. They were good! I also enjoyed the side of pickles.
After our dinner, Derek and I decided to enjoy some after dinner drinks. I ordered the Skinny Margarita. It was fresh and delicious. Derek ordered the Magic Hat Low Key IPA and said it was good, but a little bit more full bodied and dark that he was used to.
This is a restaurant that Derek and I will definitely try out again. Good vibes, great food, and good drinks make it an enjoyable experience. This laid back restaurant would be great for after work drinks, lunch or dinner with family and friends.
