Wormtown Brewery: Worcester, MA
I went to college in Worcester, Massachusetts and graduated in 2009. They decided to start an incredible brewery with one of my favorite IPAs the year after I left. We moved back to this area a couple of years ago and we have been going to Shrewsbury St in Worcester a lot this year. Almost every time we go now, we stop by Wormtown for a beer or maybe a flight.
Wormtown is located at one end of Shrewsbury St. One of the nice things about it is that it has a parking lot attached to it to make it easier to get to. The inside of the brewery is well laid out. There's a long bar and plenty of standing room at counters all over. There are a few barrels with seating around them and games that you can play while you're there. The walls are covered with awards and it isn't hard to figure out why.
We ended up sharing a flight containing: Punxsutawney Pils, Bottle Rocket Pale Ale, Be Hoppy, and Birthday Brew #6. Britt's favorite is Birthday Brew #6, mine is Be Hoppy so we got one of each of those but it was her first time trying Punxsutawney Pils and my first time trying Bottle Rocket. The Pils was everything you'd expect from a springtime Pilsner and a little more. It was nice and light with almost a floral taste and nose. The flavor really opens up after the first sip.There's some nice bitterness and a semi dry finish. A great beer for spring, easy drinking, still lots of flavor. The Bottle Rocket was really good as well. Started off with an almost spicy taste almost piney, rounded out to a nice bitterness, and finished nice and dry. The Birthday Brew #6 had caramel and espresso notes, creamy finish, and full of flavor.
The atmosphere is friendly and energetic, the layout of the tasting room is great for groups, and the beer is some of the best in the area. We love Wormtown Brewery, it is going to continue being a night cap when we're dining in Worcester! Great to see so much good beer being made right down the road.
