Corn and Company: Caramel
There were many yummy treats at the 2016 Boston Wine Expo. However, there was one table that stuck out in mind, the Corn & Co table. This table was headed by a couple who were the example of friendliness. You could tell that they were very passionate about the popcorn they make. What drew me to the table originally is the fact that they had a sign posted that many of their flavors were vegan, gluten free, or dairy free. As someone who is lactose intolerant, it can sometimes be hard to find treats that I can eat at these sort of events. Derek went up to the table and asked which of the flavors were dairy free. We were told that I could eat the regular popcorn, the truffle and olive oil and the caramel out of the flavors that were on the table to sample. When the couple saw my reaction to how excited I was about most of their products being dairy free, the owner informed me that they have many friends and family who have allergies or who are vegan, so they wanted to create a product that they could enjoy too! I loved that about this company!
I tried the truffle and olive oil popcorn. It was so yummy. It would make for a great snack at a dinner party while people are waiting for the main course. What I was most excited about however, was the fact that the caramel flavor was dairy free. It was a miracle! I hadn't had anything caramel since I was diagnosed with lactose intolerance in early 2013. Finally, some caramel! Yum.
I was so excited about this popcorn, that my husband and I, as well as blogger Marie Torto from Chocolate and Wine and her fiance Sean Bucklin, kept visiting the table over the next two days of the Wine Expo.
The owners were friendly and enjoyed our company, as well as we did there's. So, at the end of the expo, they gave me a bag of the Caramel flavored popcorn to bring home and enjoy.
I was ecstatic.
Last night, my husband and I were watching New Girl on Fox and playing Skip-bo. My husband made some Old Fashions. I decided that this was a perfect time to enjoy the caramel popcorn from Corn &Co. I opened the bag, and instantly my mouth was watering, remembering the amazing flavor I had had just two days before.
The popcorn is coated in the caramel, just enough that it coats the entire kernel of popcorn. However, it wasn't too much popcorn that it overpowered the taste of the popcorn itself.
The texture of the popcorn was slightly crunchy, perfect. Sometimes you buy popcorn and it's a bit stale or soft, this was just right! The flavor of the popcorn itself was unlike any other. The sweetness of the caramel was mixed with a slight saltiness of the popcorn underneath it.
Best of all, the popcorn is dairy free, gluten free, nut free, and vegan, as noted on their website. Those of us with allergies know how incredibly hard it is to find yummy foods that meet our needs and don't taste like cardboard. I highly recommend Corn & Co to meet your needs.
Check out Corn & Co's website or visit them on Twitter to learn more about how yummy this popcorn is, or to learn more about how their yummy treats can meet your dietary needs.
Next time you are hosting friends for a dinner party, or your staying home with your spouse playing board games, think about buying a bag of Corn & Co. You won't be disappointed.
