Boston for the day! - The Tap and Bostonia

Britt and I were out again this weekend. This time we decided to head into Boston. Britt really wanted to get oysters on Sunday so we decided to try a new place. While we were headed in, Britt used Boston Eater's guide for $1 oysters from 2015 and saw Nix's Mate near Faneuil Hall and the Financial District. We got in a few hours before the special "Buck-A-Shuck" oyster deal so we decided to get a couple of drinks around the Faneuil Hall area.

The first place we stopped off at was The Tap. I had been to the tap many times when I was in my college days and I have to say that the place is a lot different than it was years ago! The floor is no longer covered in the night before, the beer and drinks are ones you want to sit and enjoy rather than drink until you can't. The barroom was bright and the cocktails looked full of fresh fruit and juices. It was a total makeover from the bar it once was and it was like the bar grew up along side of my expectations and into a great place to grab a beer. We did not have the food but the beer list was impressive for a smaller bar and the wine list was great as well. Britt had a great big Old Vine Zinfandel and I had an always delicious Jack's Abby Hoponius Union. The noise level was low enough to hold an easy conversation side by side at the bar but the place had a buzz about it like any watering hole would. The interior was really nice and new and the "Freedom Trail" theme was not overdone. It is a great improvement over its previous appearance and, once again, a great place to grab a drink in Boston.

We saw a Tweet to have us check out the Ginger Man around the corner but it looked like it was close to opening but not open yet so we went across the street to the Bostonia Public House to grab another drink. It was our first time here and I found it really nice. The bar was really long and had plenty of seating mid day on a Sunday. The back of the bar was lined with wine dispensing machines so once again, Britt grabbed a Zinfandel and I an IPA from Entitled Brewing Company. I had never had this beer and was really impressed with my first Entitled experience. Really great IPA and surprised me that this had an ABV of 7.2. It was really well balanced, just a touch of sweetness and great hop flavor that let you know you were drinking an IPA. Great second place to spend our Sunday afternoon.

We then went to Nix's Mate for some wine and dinner. I drank a really nice Super Tuscan while Britt kept going down the line of Zinfandel. You can read more about Britt's Oyster experience in her post about Nix's Mate and her review of the AMAZING vegan ice cream substitute that they serve at FoMu. The whole afternoon was great. We got to walk around a little and enjoy Boston without snow covering the ground, we had some amazing beer and wine, discovered a couple of new places, and reacquainted with the grown up version of an old favorite. We always love going into Boston and we can't wait till the next excuse we have to head into the city.
