Fuji Steak House: Needham, MA

Fuji Steak House saw some of our posts about sushi and tweeted us about their restaurant. They had asked us a couple time to check them out through Twitter, so Derek and I decided to pay them a visit. We usually always try to get to places that contact us through Twitter as we like supporting local businesses and love trying new places.

When we got to Fuji, I noticed that the decor was very simple but authentic. The staff welcomed us, and we got a seat next to the sushi bar. Derek had never been to a Hibachi grill before, so he was amazed as he watched the chefs in action as they threw food in people's mouths. There were a few hibachi tables not too far from the sushi bar. There were also come private rooms to enjoy your food.

When we sat down, our waitress was very attentive. We ordered our drinks. Derek got a Sapporo beer, and I got the strawberry martini. Derek has had the beer before, so he enjoyed it. I loved the martini. I usually don't order martinis because they are too sweet for me, but this martini was a perfect blend of sweet and tart. In fact, it was slightly more tart than sweet, which made it way more enjoyable than other martinis that I have had.

I liked the ordering process at Fuji. You are given a list of the all the sushi with the exception of the specials. I ordered two rolls, the spicy scallop (a traditional favorite of mine) and the Love Boat. The Love Boat was a special roll. The waitress told us I needed to try a special roll as they are unique to their place and you can't get them at other sushi restaurant. Derek ordered Edamame.

Derek's Edamame came out first. I tried one, and it was cooked well with just the right amount of salt. Derek really enjoyed it.

Shortly after, I got my spicy scallop roll. I am not lying when I say it is the BEST spicy scallop roll I have ever had. It was a mix of chunks of scallops and minced up scallop. Derek noted that I probably liked it so much because most of the maki was made up of the shellfish with just a thin layer of rice. It was all about the center of the maki. I agreed that I thought that might be one of the reasons I really liked it.

Then, my special roll came out. At first, when I saw it, I was a bit disappointed. Though it looked absolutely beautiful, I did not realize that I was ordering something cooked with tempura. I should have looked at the picture of the dish and not just the menu. It was my fault, as the restraunt gives you pictures of all their special rolls. It's nothing against Tempura, but I'm just more of a raw fish girl when it comes to sushi. However, the roll was very good and tasty. The spicy tuna on top made the whole dish!

We are glad we checked this place out. I will definitely be going back. I have been searching for a good place for sushi in this area. I haven't been able to find one since we moved to Marlborough last year. I'm glad I finally found a local sushi place that has good quality sushi.
