The Local Kitchen and Drinks: Wayland, MA

Derek wanted to go out for dinner and drinks last Friday night. During the day, Derek searched for a restraunt in the area that we hadn't tried yet. He used Four Square, and found The Local Kitchen and Drinks in Wayland, MA.

We arrived at The Local at about 5:45 on the Friday night. The restraunt was already filled with laughter; friends and coworkers enjoying drinks at the bar, and families eating in the dining room. However, we had an easy time getting a table and were taken right to our seats.

The restraunt was freezing! It was the first nice day in MA, 70 degrees, so I think they had cranked the air conditioner. I sent Derek out to the car to get a sweatshirt, and the kind and bubbly waitress approached me. She was talkative and social, and I enjoyed her company and service. I always enjoy and upbeat waitress.

We ordered our drinks. Derek got a Harpoon IPA and I got a cocktail made with Whiskey and muddled blackberries. Derek enjoyed his drink. My drink was enjoyable after the first couple sips. It was very strong, and at first, I only tasted the whiskey, but after a couple gulps, I enjoyed it.

The menu was filled with so many choices that I had a hard time choosing what I wanted. Derek knew he was going to get a grilled cheese and fries, but I needed the extra time to decide what I wanted. Finally, I decided upon the Ahi Tuna Wontons off the Small Bites menu and the Crispy Brussel Sprouts off the Snacks menu.

The food came to our table within 10 minutes. Derek liked his grilled cheese and fries. Derek said the fries were incredible, and he even went as far as saying that they were some of the best that he has had in the area.

I tried my Brussels sprouts first. Oh my gosh, let me say that this is the BEST side I have ever had.... ever. I just recently got into Brussels sprouts at Easter dinner, so I was a little wary of if I should even order them. However, they sounded good to me, so I had to. They were delicious. Slightly crispy, a little crunch, and very fresh, they were a dish on their own. The lime soy dipping sauce enhanced the flavor of the dish.

I then tasted the ahi tuna wontons. For some reason, this dish is not on their menu online. Perhaps it is only on the Wayland menu? The Local is also located in Newton and Wellesely. So, perhaps their menus differ from location to location. The fresh, brightly colored tuna laid on the crispy wontons, covered in seaweed and sesame and rested on top of wasabi and aioli. The dish was fresh and tasty. I asked for a side of lemon to make the dish pop, and the citrus really enhanced the dish. I was impressed by the taste and presentation of this plate.

Derek and I really enjoyed our dinner at The Local Kitchen and Drinks. We will come back again, and we spoke during dinner about bringing our friends. We also talked about how it is a great place to grab drinks with friends or come with family. It has something for everyone, and is a well rounded establishment.
