The Great Lost Bear: Portland, ME

For Easter, Britt and I went up to visit our families in Maine and New Hampshire. After our Easter dinner on Saturday, My sister, her girlfriend, Britt and I went up to Portland to try out a new restaurant, The Great Lost Bear. It was really easy to get to off of the highway and in the less hectic part of Portland on Forest Ave.

The restaurant has a buzz as soon as you walk in the door. The wall art, beer memorabilia, and patrons give you the feeling that you are in a friendly, beer drinking environment. The emphasis is definitely on good beer and comfort food and that is entirely evident by the menu items (and how much real estate is given to beer). We all bought flights. I got Bissell Brothers Substance, Maine Beer Co Lunch, Maine Beer Co Peepers, Rising Tide Zephyr, and Sierra Nevada Beer Camp. ALL FOR $6.50. I cannot believe that I was able to get a flight of beer, not just any beer but some of the best beer in Maine, for $1.50 per 5 oz. For those not living close to Portland, Tavern in the Square charges me $10 for a 10 oz pour of Lunch. There is so much good beer on the menu. Honestly, I have not seen this much good beer, at these prices, anywhere.

The food menu was equally impressive. My sister ordered a Mac and Cheese, her girlfriend the Veggie Chili Cheese Fries, Britt got the Crab Salad and Guacamole Roll Up, and I, as usual, the Grilled Cheese and Fries. Once again, the grilled cheese was so good that I ate it all before Britt could get a picture and she ate half her Roll Up as well. Thankfully my sister and her girlfriends were too hot and we got pictures of those as well. Everything was scrumptious and exactly what you want when you're drinking great beer.

The beer selection was second to none, the food was incredibly good, the waitstaff was knowledgeable, friendly, and able to joke around with us, and the atmosphere was everything you look for in pub style dining. I have to say that this is one restaurant we will definitely going back to the next time we're in Portland!
